MARGAO: Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco, alleging that attendants in Goa Medical College (GMC) and other public hospitals are swindling the patient party, on Thursday, urged the government to fix the rate for attendants and ensure they don’t exploit the patients’families.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Minister and Health Minister, he said, “It is given to understand that during the peak of COVID -19 pandemic, attendants were charging as high as Rs 6,000 per day but now that the cases have subsided, they are still charging over Rs 2,000 for 24-hour stay”, he stated.
He also advised to prepare a dossier of the certified attendants as it would ensure the safety and well-being of the patients, hospitals, and staff. “The preparation of dossier of attendants would ensure only certified attendants are offering services in our state-run hospital including GMC”, he said.
Meanwhile, Congress MLA has requested the government to restart the canteen facility at the Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behaviour (IPHB) at Bambolim.
He said that doctors, the other staff and the attendant of the patients have requested him to put forth their grievances before the government with regard to Canteen.
“No canteen facility at IPHB is causing immense hardship to doctors and other staff for taking meals, and other refreshments in odd duty hours”, he stated.
He urged the government to restart the Canteen without any further delay and necessary arrangements or approval may be given to the best caterer by the concerned authorities to start the best canteen facility serving quality food at a reasonable rate.
