PANJIM: Principal Chief Engineer, PWD J S Rego will appear before Anti Corruption Branch officials Tuesday morning after summons were issued to him recently in the Subodh Kerkar corruption charges case for allegedly ‘manipulating’ PWD tenders.
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had recently said that he would be filing an FIR (first information report) against artist Subodh Kerkar on charges of corruption for allegedly ‘manipulating’ PWD tenders. The chief minister was referring to a tender floated for installation of a mural on the dead wall of the Animal Husbandry Department, tendered for Rs 9 lakh, which was commissioned by the PWD.
The ACB had issued summons to Rego a couple of days after his former boss, Churchill Alemao was asked to answer a questionnaire by ACB sleuths on allegations raised by a suspended PWD engineer on various acts of omission and commission during his reign as PWD minister.
Rego confirmed that he received a notice from the ACB. “They have sought some explanations and clarifications,” Rego said, adding that he would be going to meet the ACB.
The PCE said that he was not aware if any other officials from the department had also been summoned by the ACB.
Later, Kerkar challenged chief minister to file an FIR and alleged that he was being targeted to silence the dissent and also because he was the brother-in-law of Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai.
Kerkar has also written to the J S Rego to return his art work, which has now been removed from the building of animal husbandry.
