MARGAO: The BJP government at the Centre who lived with false dreams of “Acche Din” all these years has now pushed the Indian economy to a disaster with the GDP falling down to a historic minus 23.9 per cent. With no economic revival plan in site, what lies ahead is “suffering of the people” because of “blunders of incapable” charged Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat.
Digambar said that the bankruptcy of the local government is exposed with the fact that the majority of the hardworking government employees didn’t get their salaries before Ganesh Chaturthi and even at the end of the month.
“The Central government has completely failed in management of the COVID pandemic and economy of the country. Despite warnings from our leader Rahul Gandhi of a tsunami hitting the nation if timely action is not initiated to boost the economy, the BJP government preferred to continue with its ignorant approach and chose to celebrate with banging of ‘thaalis’ and lighting of ‘diyas’, which has now resulted in crashing of economy,” alleged Kamat.
“I want to warn the Chief Minister who also holds the Finance portfolio to out rightly reject the twin options given by the Central government to bridge the GST compensation gap. It is the legal and moral responsibility of the Centre to compensate the States for the GST revenue shortfall. The financial burden of additional borrowing must be borne by the Centre. The already bankrupt Goa will not be able to bear the burden of interest on new borrowings for Centre’s fault,” claimed Kamat.
“It is unfortunate that the Chief Minister has not released the White Paper on the financial status of Goa till date. The government must adopt austerity measures immediately and curtail wasteful expenditure on organising IFFI,” demanded Kamat.
