MARGAO: Fisheries Minister, Avertano Furtado on Friday called upon the people of Goa to reject the politics of disunity and adopt the politics of change and progress, even as he unveiled government’s plan to go ahead with the implementation of the Regional Plan 2021 by addressing the objections raised by the 15 village panchayats.
“Our religions may be different. Our castes may be different. Our languages may be different. But, we are all Indians. In our progress, lies the progress of the nation. Our fortunes and our nation’s fortunes are intertwined. And working together, we can make this fortune a glorious one”, Avertano said, while addressing the people at the Liberation Day programme at the South Goa District Collectorate after unfurling the National Flag,
He said the challenge for the people as a nation today is to address and ensure that while we keep the wheels of progress moving rapidly forward, no section of society and no part of the country is left behind.
The Fisheries Minister called for eliminating corruption. “We will work to put in place a system that rewards honesty, justice and efficiency”, he said
He further stated that Goa has made impressive performance in the Tourism sector.
, Avertano said the State is fortunate that Dabolim is one amongst the nine airports in India to have e-visa facility, which will given further boost the international tourist inflow into Goa.
Incidentally, only four MLAs from Salcete, including Avertano, Benjamin Silva, Reginaldo Lourenco and Rajan Naik, were present at the celebration. Many chairs in the audience were found empty. Margao Municipal Chairperson Gonzaco Rebello, District Collector Venancio Furtado, district police chief Shekhar Prabhudessai, freedom fighters and school students were present for the flag hosting ceremony.
