PANJIM: The long wait for students of Dhempe College of Arts and Science ended as the institution finally declared the supplementary results of Semester I and Semester III First Year BA and BSc, and Second Year BA and BSc on Monday.
Addressing the media, first year student Nimish Parab said the supplementary results of 49 students were declared hours before their plea, challenging the withholding of results was heard in the High Court of Bombay at Goa.
“The admission process is expected to start from Tuesday. The college management has already reserved seats for all the students who have passed and therefore we have decided to withdraw the writ petition,” he said.
Earlier, the students were debarred from answering Semesters I and III which were held in October last year as they did not meet the mandatory 75 per cent attendance. The college conducted remedial classes and subsequently permitted them to answer the supplementary examination. The final results were, however, withheld after GU cited that as per ordinances OC 45 and OA 17 it was not possible to declare the exam results.
The varsity maintained its stand of not promoting ineligible students amidst the ongoing heated debate over the attendance fiasco. On failing to get relief, the students filed a written petition in the High Court seeking to issue directions to the college and GU to declare the results.
Sources said Goa University has not permitted declaring the results and is awaiting the Chancellor’s decision on its report.
