MARGAO: The Goa government has issued a notification changing the State Highway 8 passing through Chandor village into Major District Road 54.
Reacting to the notification, Leader of Opposition and Cuncolim MLA Yuri Alemao thanked Minister for Public Works Department (PWD) Nilesh Cabral for acknowledging his zero-hour mention in the Goa Legislative Assembly on January 18, 2023.
He said that this notification will bring major relief to the residents of the quiet village of Chandor, who faced hardships due to vehicles speeding down the stretch and also faced the issue of damage to heritage houses in the village.
‘The movement of heavy vehicles, especially trucks, through Chandor village also needs to be stopped. The people of Chandor had erected signboards all along the road but some anti-social elements removed them,” said Alemao.
He added that he had spoken to the police officials and will ensure that the movement of heavy traffic in the area is restricted.
He also called on the PWD to install then necessary signboards on the road.
