PANJIM: In a major relief to the students who could not clear Class IX and XI during the academic year 2022-23, they will now be able to appear as private candidates for the Class X and XII 2023 Board examination, as the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) has decided to extend the facility even for the current academic year.
The relief, which was introduced in 2021, was supposed to be a one-time concession for the students during the pandemic year. However, the benefit was extended to the students last year too.
“The Board has decided to continue the scheme for the academic year 2023-24. Students who appeared for Class IX and XI for the academic year 2022-23 and with the remark on the result as ‘Needs Improvement’ will now be able to appear as private candidates for the academic year 2023-24,” Board Secretary Vidhyadatta Naik stated in a circular issued.
The GBSHSE has invited applications from students of Class IX and XI who desire to enroll for ‘Needs Improvement’, as private candidate, to appear for Class X and XII Board examination to be held in March-April, next year.
To appear as private candidates, the students will also be allowed to either choose their present school or any other school, which will act as their centre and carry out their year-round evaluation.
The Board had in 2021 revised the scheme for private candidates to appear for the Class X and XII Board examination, as per which the private candidates too will get the benefit of year-round and internal assessment.
