Remarks on RSS, ‘Vande Mataram’ trigger uproar in Goa Assembly

The Goa Legislative Assembly witnessed uproar and sharp exchanges after MLA Venzy Viegas made remarks linking the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) with the slogan ‘Vande Mataram’. Reacting strongly, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant objected to the comments and said Viegas had no authority to claim that RSS members do not say ‘Vande Mataram’. The issue triggered heated arguments between members of the ruling party and the opposition, leading to brief disruption of proceedings. The Speaker intervened to restore order in the House and urged members to maintain decorum. However, the exchange added to the tense atmosphere during the ongoing Assembly session, with both sides standing firm on their positions.
