PANJIM: The rent-a-bike operators on Wednesday demanded relaxation on maximum number of licences per owner/operator.

A group of rent-a-bike operators from Goa met the Director of Transport Rajan Satardekar and requested him to allow them to retain the licences of more than 10 two-wheelers, which they currently they possess.

As per the existing government scheme, maximum vehicles per licence is 10. The operators are seeking relaxation claiming that their businesses were hit for last two years due to COVID-19 pandemic. The operators also want the maximum life of rent-a-bikes to be increased from six years to nine years given the rise in cost of two-wheelers.

Later, Assistant Director of Transport Francisco A Vaz said that the rent-a-bike operators want to retain more than 10 bikes per licence holder while, as per the revised government policy is not to grant more than 10 such vehicles per licence, They operators also urged the government to increase the life of the rent-a-bikes from six to nine years due to rising cost of two-wheelers.
