PONDA: The academic year in schools, colleges and other institutions commences in June. However, it’s almost a week now with the schools still shut due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Now, the government is exploring the online education, however some parents suggest that instead of this, the schools should be reopened by allowing 50 percent students for first three days of week for Class V to VII while remaining rest three days be reserved for Class VIII to X students.

They called upon the government to explore all options for safe and proper education.

Under such circumstances, there is uncertainty over the reopening of schools as COVID-19 cases are increasing. There are various options before educational institutions for starting the new academic year with many stakeholders calling for imparting online education.

However, some parents have suggested that government should see the option of starting schools with fifty percent student attendance daily to maintain social distancing in class rooms and in buses ferrying them to schools.

Umesh Naik, a parent said, “It is better to explore options such as consulting with stakeholders on reopening schools instead of keeping them closed. Nobody knows when COVID crisis will end. So we must explore various options to reopen the schools.”

Nayan Naik, said, “It will not be possible for parents having poor economic background to afford a smart phone for their children and to add to it the net connectivity problem.”

Another Headmaster said, “Compared to online education option, fifty per cent students’ attendance at a time in schools is a good option. At least, every student can attend class thrice a week. It is better to have education for three days a week than nothing.”

He said parents come out with better options then the government should consider them for reopening the Schools.
