VASCO: Daily commuters and residents of Dabolim have complained that the streetlights on the national highway are out of order for several months.
Claiming that the streetlight fixtures on this road are not being maintained, the people have urged the electricity department to maintain the same at the earliest to avoid unfortunate incidents.
“Broken streetlights, knocked down poles and open road dividers are posing a threat to the commuters on the Dabolim road,” Kiran Naik, a local, said. The locals and the commuters have demanded that the same be repaired soon. The commuters say that the lights were fixed during BRICS summit and now they don’t work. The national highway authority has been urged to look into the matter.
National Highway Project Director Premanand Doddamani said, “I will get the problems of the streetlights rectified.”
Several incidents of vehicle coming from the wrong side into the oncoming traffic too are experienced by the commuters on this busy highway. Vegetation along the road often blocks the view of the vehicles on turns. The road is in need of urgent surveillance and upkeep.
