MAPUSA: The repair work of the 100-metre portion of the National Highway at Porascadem which caved in has commenced.
Officials of National Highway Authority said the contractor has to manage the repair work of the portion which caved in within the same budget of highway expansion.
Meanwhile, six PWD pipelines got washed away into the Tiracol River after the road caved in. The villagers of Ugvem, Torxem, Tamboxem, Mopa and Patradevi underwent severe hardship after PWD shut the water supply to these villages.
Pernem PWD officials informed that water to these villages will be restored only after the road is repaired and new pipes are laid.
The other half of the road also developed crack.
