MAPUSA: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant in presence of Saligao MLA Jayesh Salgaonkar and PWD Minister Deepak Pawaskar commenced the work for improvement and hot-mixing of Chogm road from O’Coqeiro to Saligao Circle.
The Chief Minister said, ”It is the duty of the government to provide basic amenities but maintenance is more important. Goa being a touristic State, this is one of the main road leading to the tourist destinations and providing the infrastructure will attract more tourists. We are thinking of next 50 years.”
Stating that government is ready to provide free drinking water, the Chief Minister said,” The Porvorim plant will give much relief to people of Saligao and Calangute Constituencies. We are even ready to provide free water or with minimum (reasonable) price but people should use it responsibly.”
Saligao MLA Jayesh said, ”There is lot of profile correction to be done while taking up the work of improvement of this road. Level correction to avoid flooding, drainages, bus bays, utilities and other facilities will be looked into due to which commencing the work at this time of the monsoon is required.”
“By November, the hot-mixing of road will be taken. This road connects the tourism circuit. Tourists while travelling should feel that they are moving towards a tourism spot. People have doubt that their houses and compounds will be removed or damaged while taking up the improvement work but I assure that no such thing will be done,” he said.
PWD Minister Deepak Pawaskar informed that by December end, the project work will be completed. Since Saligao has high water level, provision of cross drainage system is made. This road is 5.8 km with 13 to 8 metres width and will have 50mm BM carpet and 30 mm BC carpet.
