Repairs of Margao roads yet to see light of the day

MARGAO: The much promised commencement of repairs of Margao’s dilapidated roads that were supposed to commence on Wednesday according to South Goa BJP’s Sharmad Raiturkar didn’t see the light of the day.
The Margao Congress Block Committee hit back and asked Sharmad to concentrate on helping his party instead of criticising Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat.
President Gopal Naik pointed out that Sharmad has lost the Assembly elections thrice. He further called on Sharmad to get the contractors of government Rest House at Monte Hill to pay their dues so that the money could be utilised to repair the bad roads.
While stating that the roads in the State were very good when Digambar was the Chief Minister, he said they have been damaged only after 2012 when the BJP came to power as the party adopted a policy of appeasing its party cadre, which adversely affected basic services such as roads, water and electricity.
He added that it was because of Digambar’s planning that Margao was saved from water woes due to the 10,000 cubic metre tank built at Gogol and two 4,000 cubic metre tanks at Monte Hill. They pointed out that the capital city of Panjim has water problems despite being having been represented by the BJP for so long.
Further, while pointing out that former CM and Panjim MLA (late) Manohar Parrikar had the privilege of inaugurating the Matanhy Saldanha Administrative Complex, which was the brainchild of Digambar, he said it is unfortunate that the BJP has not been able to complete the South Goa District Hospital for the last eight years.
Meanwhile, reacting to the delay in repair of Margao roads, Sharmad pointed to the material such as the rubble and gravel that has been dumped by the roadside, while indicating that the work will start soon.
