PANJIM: The Congress party has demanded that the Chief Electoral Officer Keshav Chandra be replaced, alleging that he is hand in gloves with Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar.
Party spokesman Durgadas Kamat told a press conference that he has already petitioned the Election Commission of India in this regard.
“His act of not taking action against the officers working in Chief Minister’s Office for violating the model code of conduct clearly shows he is working at the behest of his master – Parrikar. We want him replaced with another officer in the Goa State Election Office,” he said.
Kamat also pointed out Chandra’s alleged involvement in the Lusofonia Games infrastructural scam as the latter was holding the position as Chief Executive Officer of the Portuguese commonwealth games.
The party has also accused Lyndon Monteiro, officer on Special Duty to Power Minister for violating the election code by campaigning for the BJP for Lok Sabha polls through a press conference held by Goa Vikas Party’s chief Francisco Pacheco. The legislator had announced at the briefing on Friday lending his support to the saffron party. “Why is the OSD campaigning for the masters… He can’t campaign for any political party being a government servant,” Kamat said demanding action against him.
Commenting on BJP’s South Goa candidate Narendra Sawaikar, the Congress spokesperson raised serious doubts that charges against him in the tribals’ violence at Balli involving UTTA leaders, was dropped ahead of the elections. “This is injustice to Bahujan Samaj,” he said by playing the community card.
