Replace damaged electric poles, say Uguem locals

SANGUEM: The residents of Novo Waddo in Uguem have called for immediate replacement of two damaged and corroded electric poles located barely few metres away from residential houses.
“The poles were erected around 30 years ago and they are worn out and corroded,” a villager Galdino Dias informed.
“The poles have developed crack from bottom to top and the poles are presently kept together due to supporting cable,” Dias claimed.
Dias informed that the poles are located barely around four to five metres from the residential houses and in the event of the poles facing a collapse, there is every possibility of the lives of people residing in the locality would be in danger.
A large number of children also play throughout the day in the vicinity of the damaged poles and this has made the residents all the more worried, informed another villager Afosinho Carvalho.
The villagers have therefore want the electricity department to immediately replace the damaged electricity poles, failing which the villagers claim the department officials to be solely held responsible for loss of life and also damaged to property.
