Replantation along Swatantra Path

VASCO: Mormugao Municipal council has commenced its drive to replant trees along the Swatantra Path in Vasco.
It may be recalled that the trees which were nearly 100 years old had to be cut down after locals expressed fears of the trees collapsing on motorists and passersby. The local disaster management committee headed by the Deputy Collector had declared numerous trees along the Swatantra Path as dangerous and ordered their felling.
The town ward councilor, Krishna Daji Salkar who got the trees removed had to recently face criticism from the opposition councillors and was challenged to replace them soon.
Salkar in his defence informed that he had put up a proposal to the Forest Department for replanting of trees that had been cut however the same had allegedly fallen into cold storage due to the political interference. He said that it was the revenge politics which was being meted out against him.
