PONDA: In a bid to crack down on child labour in the State, Goa State Labour Commissioner Fatima Rodrigues has sought the cooperation of people in reporting incidents of children employed in their area.
Rodrigues was speaking as the chief guest at the workers education day programme at Ponda organised by Central Board for Workers Education on Tuesday.
Editor of a Marathi daily Shriram Panchindre, Angelica Gracias (customer relation officer, Bharat Petroleum), special invitee Rajendra Bhise (manager Reserve Bank of India), K H Naik (Regional Director), Irvin D’Silva, Ranjani Zalmi, Ratan Naik and Aruna Wagh were present.
Speaking further, Rodrigues said as per prevailing law, men and women should be paid the same salary for the same type of job.
“In case such discrimination prevails, it should be brought to the notice of the labour department. Presently, the minimum wage fixed is Rs 215 and any employer pays less than that, it should be informed,” she said.
Rodrigues appealed the labourers engaged in construction work to register with the government so that they get benefits of various schemes beside health cards and smart cards.
Angelica Gracias said the security rubber tube of LPG gas cylinder should be changed at specified period. She informed that the LPG gas cylinder should be delivered at the door step and not on the toad.
“In case the distributors are not providing LPG gas cylinders at the door step, people should complain to the authority,” she added.
Rajendra Bhise said the Reserve Bank, which was established in 1935, regulates and controls banking activities all over India. “The national language, Hindi, will gain more importance in future due its usage all over India,” he said.
