‘Report on State’s air quality on Diwali eve soon’

PANJIM: The Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) will present a report on the quality of air on the eve of Diwali soon. 

GSPCB Chairman Mahesh Patil said that the air quality of the State was being monitored and the reports would be available within a day or two.  

Speaking to O Heraldo, Patil said, “Two vehicles have been stationed to monitor air pollution. One has been stationed at Panjim and another at Margao to monitor air quality over the State. Besides this there are 16 air monitoring stations. They are manual. The data provided by them are to be analysed. The data will be available by Monday or Tuesday.”

Meanwhile, Diwali, the festival of lights was celebrated across the State by burning effigies of demon king Narkasur while Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, among others, extended greetings to the people and urged them to buy local products to celebrate the festival. 

Goa has a tradition of making effigies of demon king Narkasur and burning them on the eve of Diwali. While effigies were made and burnt at different places across the capital city and nearby areas, the main event was held at Mahalaxmi Temple, Panjim where ‘Narakasura Vadh took place.

On Sunday evening, the Hindu families and businessmen performed Laxmi Puja.
