Reporters should highlight the shortcomings in the society: Sanguem MLA

SANGUEM: Considering Press to be the fourth pillar of a
democratic society, the reporters should bring out the truth and highlight the
shortcomings in the society, claimed Sanguem MLA Prasad Gaonkar. He was
speaking at the annual function organised by Sanguem Patrakar Sangh at Gurukul
Sanguem on the occasion of ‘Tilak Jayanthi’.

Speaking further Gaonkar complemented the media persons in
Sanguem for doing the wonderful job of bringing to fore the development
activities in the taluka and the shortcomings.

Gaonkar urged the reporters to do factual reporting and
avoid writing ill against the members of the society, which he claimed at times
hurts the feelings of the people despite doing good in the society.

Chairperson of Sanguem Municipal Council Romualdo Fernandes
was the Guest of Honour and assured all support and co-operation to the
reporters from Sanguem in carrying on with their work in the society.

On the occasion, Sanguem Patrakar Sangh felicitated a local
Shriram Kurdikar from Sanguem for his achievement in the field of theatre.
Similarly Vagho Misal was felicitated for his work in the upliftment of the
Dhangar Community. Both the felicitates were presented with a shawl, cash prize
and a momento awarded in memory of late Pandu Vassu Naik. The awards are
institutes by his sons Vinay Naik and Sangam Naik.

The Sanguem Patrakar Sangh also felicitated the toppers from
Sanguem taluka at the recently held SSC exams. Those felicitated includes
Arushi Arolkar, Prathmesh Shanbag, Rashmi Verlekar and Marathe.

On the occasion a patriotic songs singing competition was
also organised wherein students of Union High School secured the first place.
The second third and fourth prize was won by Government High School Valkini
Utkarsh High School Rivona and Government High School Netravali respectively.

Ravindra Naik and Dharmu A Karmalkar were the judges for the
patriotic songs singing competition.

Earlier Prasad Tilve welcomed the gathering while President
of Sanguem Patrakar Sanguem spoke on the difficulties envisaged by the local media
persons while doing the job of reporting. Gaonkar also brought to fore of
attempts being made by some reporters to spoil the name of Sanguem Patrakar
Sangh by demanding money for doing reports. Gaonkar urged the general public to
be cautioned against these section of reporters as the members of Sanguem
Patrakar Sanguem have never resorted to such type of practice. Manoday Phadte
and Sandeep Mapari introduced the felicitatees to the audience.
