VASCO: Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho on Friday submitted a representation to Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh regarding the difficulties faced by the people residing in and around the Dabolim international airport.

After submitting his representation to the Union Minister, who made a transit halt at the Dabolim airport, Godinho said that he has also enclosed a copy of the memorandum presented to him by the CREDAI Goa branch, listing their issues.  He said that he has requested Singh to give him an audience to resolve all the issues including the issue of residents living in and around the Dabolim airport. He said that the Union Minister has assured him that he would convene a meeting in Delhi at a later date.

It may be recalled that a fortnight ago the Supreme Court ordered status quo on the demolition of structures built in and around Dabolim airport, until further orders. The High Court of Bombay at Goa had ordered the demolition of as many 45 “illegal structures” situated in and around Dabolim airport so as to ensure flying safety as these structures were posing danger to flights.
