Sources at Anjuna Police said the two girls rescued late Tuesday night had revealed the names of two police officers – a police inspector who has earlier served in Calangute Police Station and a police constable.
However, Anjuna PI Paresh Naik denied that the rescued girls revealed any such information. According to him the girls were rescued in a raid at Anjuna Petrol Pump and the pimp, a native of Orrisa, has been arrested.
Sources said that another pimp who was with the girls had run from the spot. The girls, natives of West Bengal, have been sent to the protective home and accused Rehan Khan of Karnataka has been remanded in police custody for five days.
Local activists and NGOs who preferred to remain anonymous said the case should be handed over to the Crime Branch for a fair probe. “Prostitution rackets and police involvement in the rackets is shameful and needs to be tackled by senior officers,” a local activist said.
He said that only an independent agency like Crime Branch may dig thoroughly in such rackets.
