PANJIM: The 14-year-old rape victim, who was among 18 others rescued during a raid at Moonlight Circus earlier this month, has been handed over to Mumbai Child Welfare Committee (CWC) after she testified before a local Judicial Magistrate First Class. Sources said her statement has been recorded under Section 164 CrPC.
The girl is a crucial witness in the case as her revelations to Mumbai police exposed the brutalities the juvenile performers underwent at the hands of the circus owner and its staff. The victim along with two other girls had escaped from Margao in January and landed in Thane in Mumbai on their way to Howrah (West Bengal) when the Mumbai police rescued them.
After regular counselling sessions by a Mumbai-based NGO International Justice Mission, she disclosed the horrific experiences of the girls in Moonlight Circus which was communicated to Goa counterparts. Thereafter the circus venue in Margao was raided on March 1 and other victims were rescued.
