A number of parents pointed out that though there is no exam for the general students on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher secondary education could have either pre-poned or postponed the exams taking into account the Holy Week, beginning with the Palm Sunday on March 29.
A parent from Benaulim Rudolf told Herald that Holy week is a week wherein Catholics attend Church services throughout the week, beginning from Palm Sunday. “Many parents feel that the Board could have altered the dates taking into the account the intervening Holy week”, he said.
When Herald contacted the Chairman of Goa Board Jose Rebello, he did not think that the Holy Week services will in any way affect the SSC examination. “There are no exams scheduled on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday. On Maundy Thursday, only around 150-200 students will answer the vocational papers, while majority of the students will have no paper on Maundy Thursday”, he said.
Rebello further said that only the language papers are scheduled during the Holy Week, while examination for the main subjects is scheduled after the Easter. “As it is, the examinations are held late this year. The papers will have to be corrected during the vacation”, he said, while firmly ruling out the possibility of rescheduling the examination.
