PANJIM: Art and Culture Minister Govind Gaude on Saturday said that the both the Houses of Parliament can pass resolutions unanimously and direct the Delimitation Commission to implement political reservation for Scheduled Tribes (ST) communities in the State.
Speaking to mediapersons on the sidelines of a programme in the city, Gaude said that reservation of seats for ST communities in the Goa Legislative Assembly will not be solved by boycotting the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The issue can be resolved politically by adopting resolution in both Houses of Parliament. He said that the letter written by the Ministry of State for law and Justice to the Directorate of Tribal Welfare was a routine process and unless and until the Delimitation Commission meet it was difficult to get political reservation for ST communities.
Appealing to his communities not to get disappointed, Gaude said that the legal battle is on and that 2011 Census was available with both – the Central and State governments. “We need political will,” he said while regretting that for the last 20 years ST communities have been unable to get political reservation in the State. He further said that the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has also assured the Members in the Legislative Assembly that he would lead an all-party delegation to Delhi, to press for political reservation for ST communities.
