Reservoirs to enhance water supply in Madkai, Kundaim

PONDA:  The Public Works Department (PWD) said that the construction of two ground level reservoirs (GLRs) – one each at Madkai Industrial Estate and Tapobhoomi, Kundaim will enhance the water supply in these two villages.

PWD chief engineer (Water Division)  Santosh Mhapne said that the two GLRs of 300 cubic metre capacity in Madkai and Kundaim will cater to the water supply needs need of these two villages. Besides, a 150 mm diameter ductile iron pipeline will be laid from the new GLR to provide water supply to a pharmaceutical company at the Madkai industrial estate.

A senior engineer said that the company has been asked to pay for the dedicated line. He said that an amount of Rs 1 crore has already been paid while the company will pay the remaining amount of Rs one crore in four instalments.

The work of constructing the GLRs, laying of pipeline and installation of a centrifugal pump at Kundaim has been allotted to Vijay Pai from Tonca-Caranzalem at an estimated cost of Rs 2.25 crore. The contractor has been allotted time up to July 25, 2024 to complete the work.

Local MLA and Power Minister Sudin Dhavalikar laid foundation stones for both the reservoirs

Stating that the reservoirs will solve the water scarcity in the villages, Dhavalikar thanked Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and former PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral for approving the work. Madkai and Kundaim already have one each reservoir and these reservoirs will further enhance the supply to the villages, he added.
