Resident doctors have exposed deadly situation in GMC: Cong

MARGAO: Holding the BJP government responsible for pushing the State into COVID death trap, GPCC President Girish Chodankar on Sunday charged and said the time has come for Dr Pramod Sawant to get into lockup for culpable homicide.

He further said, “There are rising positive cases and an increasing death toll due to improper healthcare. Unfortunately, the defective Chief Minister says there is no need for lockdown.”

“Today, resident doctors have exposed the deadly situation in Goa Medical College and Hospital in their letter to the Dean of GMC which has gone viral on social media. It is shocking to understand that the oxygen supply in various COVID wards is not even close to sufficient. There is no adequate supply of oxygen from the central system which hampers the effective functioning of ventilators and other medical equipment,” he stated.

Girish also pointed out that Youth Congress office-bearers reached out to many patients to provide oxygen to suffering patients but the government used the police to harass them.

“The revelations also expose the bad state of affairs at South Goa District Hospital,” he further stated.

He also said it is clear that the hardworking doctors and health care workers are facing serious difficulties and the government is just not bothered to pay attention to them.

“It is the responsibility of the government to provide security to all of them,” Girish urged.

Referring to South Goa District Hospital, he said the pro-crony capitalist BJP government has not taken any steps to utilise the two vacant floors of South Goa District Hospital, as the government still wants to hand it over to the private players for setting up of private medical college.

“Patients are made to sleep on the floors, stretchers and some are given treatment on chairs,” Girish claimed. “The above facts make it convincingly clear that the doctors, nurses, healthcare workers, and patients are sandwiched in the political fight between the Chief Minister and Health Minister,” he alleged.

He also said, “The government is in complete denial about the non-availability of beds and oxygen.”

“The government authorities need to book Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant holding him responsible for the deaths of innocent patients under culpable homicide,” he demanded.
