QUEPEM: The residents of Quepem have raised concerns over the dangling overhead high tension (HT) and low tension (LT) lines at Igarmol-Ambaulim.
Social activist Azim Shaikh complained that these overhead lines are dangling at an arm’s length and could prove fatal to the public in case if they come in contact with them.
Shaikh said “I am concerned over the safety of the public who use this stretch daily. I request the Electricity Department to act at the earliest before any tragedy takes place.”
When contacted Quepem Electricity Department Assistant Engineer Sharad Naik admitted that these HT and LT lines located in the fields along Ambaulim-Quepem road are at an arm’s length. During monsoon on account of damage to the electric poles these wires further dangle precariously.
“We had made arrangements for installing two extra poles however following objection from the local farmers the work failed to materialise. Now, following objection from the farmers, our department has sought permission to shift these LT and HT lines to the roadside along the Quepem-Ambaulim stretch. We are following up this issue,” Naik added.
