MAPUSA: People all over Bardez and Pernem extended their support to the nationwide Janata Carfew by staying doors throughout the day. Hardly few were found moving in these two talukas.
The municipal markets both in Mapusa and Pernem were totally shut down; and no public transport vehicles plied throughout the day.
However, a grocery store and a bakery in Mapusa was open only till 7, attracting a huge crowd of people that came to buy milk and bread.
Some women had come to Mapusa market to sell their produce early in the morning; however, they had to return as there were no buyers.
Similar was the case in coastal belt of Calangute, Candolim, Baga, Anjuna, Vagator, Morjim, Arambol and Keri; the entire North Goa coastal belt wore a deserted look.
Foreigners and domestic tourists extended their full cooperation for the Janata Carfew by keeping away from the beaches.
The railway stations at Pernem and Thivim, and the bus stands at Mapusa and Pernem were totally shut down. Even the petrol pumps were closed.
