MARGAO: Judge Carlo Santana Da Silva in an urgent appeal to the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) has highlighted the issue of a stray dog roaming freely within the Margao Civic and Criminal Court premises.

In a letter addressed to the MMC chairperson, Judge Da Silva emphasised that the stray dogs’ presence has been causing considerable distress to advocates, litigants, and court staff.

The Judge warned that the situation posed a potential threat to public safety, urging the MMC to deploy personnel to capture the stray animal and resolve the matter swiftly.

Incidentally, there have been complaints of stray dogs entering other buildings like the South Goa District Collectorate for example.

While the MMC was criticised in the past for delaying on signing an agreement for carrying out the Animal Birth Control (ABC) for over three years, the civic body had finally signed the agreement with an NGO recently, but questions were raised over the alleged absence of codal formalities during the signing of the agreement.

Moreover, MMC was also criticised for failing to turn up for the taluka level meeting organised by the District Collector recently, to resolve the stray dog issue, which had the representation of other stakeholders such as panchayat bodies, NGOs, hoteliers and the Mission Rabies team.
