PANJIM, MARCH 24
Three of the offshore casinos received some reprieve from the High Court of Bombay at Goa which allowed them to make alternate food arrangements on board. The Food and Drugs Administration had sealed the restaurants of these casinos on March 17 for operating without licenses.
The three casinos placed before the court that their business was being hit on account of the sealing of their restaurants. On Tuesday a division bench of the court heard three separate petitions by Pride of Goa (Goa Coastal Resorts and Recreation Pvt Ltd), Casino Royale (High Street Cruises and Entertainment Limited) and Arabian Sea King (Victor Hotels and Motels Limited).
The division bench was headed by Justice P B Majumdar and U D Salvi.
The counsel for casinos informed the court that the applications filed by his clients for obtaining licenses were pending before the FDA. He argued that the casinos should be allowed to buy food from hotels having pertinent FDA licenses.
The bench directed the casino operators to make arrangements for food after informing the FDA of the restaurants from which they would be sourcing the food.
