PORVORIM: PWD Executive Engineer V M Chavan has informed that the water pumps sent for repairs would now return only by Monday and hence normal water supply would be restored to Bardez only by Tuesday.
Earlier, the PWD had assured to normalise water supply to Bardez by Saturday, but have now extended the deadline to Tuesday.
When questioned why the normal water supply was not restored to Mapusa and other parts of Bardez, Chavan said that the pumps haven’t returned as expected on Saturday.
Meanwhile, it has come to light that Porvorim too had faced similar water shortage as faced by the residents of Mapusa. Commenting on the same, Chavan said, “The situation has come under control across Bardze taluka. The water requirement for Porvorim is 15 MLD and from Saturday they are being supplied 11 MLD water. The excess water going to few places has been stopped and the water is being distributed equally. We have not received any complaints now. Earlier were able to supply only 7 MLD water to the Porvorim area.”
“Some isolated places may be still facing some problems, but tankers are available to supply them water. This is the first time something like this has happened and we took some time to cope with the issue. We are not supplying much water to the commercial areas; even normally, out of the total water supplied to Porvorim, only 20-25 percent is being supplied to the commercial areas,” he added.
Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte informed that the water issue is not only pertaining to Porvorim but the entire Bardez taluka due to the problem at the Assonora Water Treatment Plant. “The problem should have been addressed properly by the PWD and needs immediate attention. Whatever water is coming to Porvorim is being distributed equally. I had a review meeting with the PWD Executive Engineer and have been told that in the coming week everything will be in place. We have also made water tankers available to the residents,” Khaunte said.
