PANJIM: There will be restricted water supply to the entire Bardez taluka on August 8, due to urgent maintenance work at 30 MLD Water Treatment Plant at Assonora, stated office of the Executive Engineer, DIV XVII (water supply), Porvorim.
The public is requested to bear the inconvenience caused to them. Some of the villages situated at the tail end of the taluka are facing water shortage.
Congress’ Aldona MLA Adv Carlos Alvares Ferreira had asked the government to rectify the problems of water supply faced by the Aldona constituency especially in the villages of Aldona, Carona, Pomburpa and Ecoxim on one side and Nachinola, Bastora and Uccasaim on the other.
Speaking during a calling attention motion concerning the shortage of water supply that he along with other members of the opposition moved, Adv Ferreira had pointed out to the department’s own reports which have sought for augmentation of supply.
“In Sai Nagar, they (PWD engineers) themselves have said to upgrade capacity; at Lankdem they have sought that the 200 mm pipe has to be replaced because if it is not then the pressure is not enough to fill the tank. Borvonwaddo, Nachinola tank is in a dilapidated condition so it is no longer in use and the connections are direct. If the Chief Minister can look into this and expedite it,” he had said.
“There are water supply problems across the State of Goa, pumps fail, pipes break and the supply fails,” he said, pointing out that the pipeline is failing repeatedly and is often repaired only 24 hours later after the loss of much water.
“Minister Subhash Shirodkar has promised no more water shortage by 2024. I don’t think it is going to happen because if you are going to have these breakdowns and there is not quick repair, when there is a pipe burst, the water is wasted,” he added.
