PONDA: Due to repair works scheduled at the Opa Water Treatment Plant, there will be restricted water supply on February 13 and 14 to parts of Tiswadi and Ponda talukas. The water division authorities will undertake the replacement of a 23-year-old joint in the rising main pipeline of the Opa water treatment plant, which has developed cracks.
Affected areas include Panjim, Taleigao, St Cruz, and St Andre constituencies in Tiswadi taluka, as well as defence establishments, medical complexes at Bambolim, and parts of Ponda taluka including Madkaim, Kundaim in Madkaim Constituency, and Keri and Volvoi in Priol Constituency. The supply restrictions may extend to February 14.
The repair process will involve replacing the cracked joint of the rising main pipeline, where the 600mm and 750mm mild steel pipes converge, with a new one. This pipeline transports raw water from the pumphouse to the 40 MLD water treatment plant located on Curti Hill.
The Opa waterworks comprises five water treatment plants collectively supplying about 152 MLD of potable water to five constituencies in Tiswadi and four constituencies in Ponda. While the 40 MLD and 27 MLD plants cater to the potable water needs of Tiswadi taluka, water from the remaining plants is supplied to both talukas.
