PANJIM: The Election authorities have directed liquor selling units, located along the State border villages, to remain closed from 6 p.m. onwards on April 16 until 6.00 p.m on April 18; and again from 6.00 p.m. on April 21 until 6.00 p.m on April 23, when the polling concludes. The premises have to also close their liquor counter on May 23, the day of counting.
In view of upcoming elections for Lok Sabha seats and three assembly constituencies, all licensed premises located within the jurisdiction of Pollem and Loliem village in Canacona Taluka and Surla village in Sattari Taluka, which falls within the range of 5 km from the border of Karwar and Belgavi, Karnataka, will be closed for the sale of liquor during the said period.
The licensed premises having a license for bar and restaurant are allowed to keep the restaurant open for serving food only and the bar counter will be closed and no liquor will be allowed to be served or sold during the ban period.
The owners of the licensed premises having bar and restaurant, will display board in the premises stating that ‘No Liquor will be served’ on the said period and that the restaurant is only open for serving food.
