SANGUEM: A portion of the residential house of one Gabriel Fernandes, a resident of Bamonsai in Sanguem was considerably damaged after a retaining wall of the adjacent house collapsed and fell on the kitchen portion.
The incident occurred at around 7 pm. Incidentally at the time of incident, Fernandes’ mother had gone to have bath. However, after hearing the loud noise, she came out of the bathroom thereby averting a major tragedy.
Fernandes suffered heavy losses in the incident which included loss to electrical appliances, side walls and roof top.
Incidentally, fearing the collapse of the compound wall at one time or other, Gabriel Fernandes had complained to the Sanguem Municipality and other government agencies in 2017 but the then Chief Officer of Sanguem Municipal Council Pramod Dessai had given a clean chit to the neighbour. Immediately after the incident, Chairperson SMC Romualdo Fernandes rushed to the site along with the officials from the Mamladar Office and also requisitioned the services of fire brigade officials.
