PONDA: The retaining wall of the elevated road at Kerya has developed a crack with the locals raising serious concerns.
After noticing the massive crack, the contractor engaged workers and started covering the same with concrete and cement. The locals have raised doubts over the work carried out by the contractor as the crack is deep.
The reason for concern among the locals is that the said elevated road is in a residential area and at a height of 14 metres. The locals have been demanding an appointment with NH authorities and PWD Minister to discuss on issue with regards to safety.
Kerya locals tried to meet the PWD Minister but their efforts provide futile. Ponda MLA Ravi Naik inspected the Kerya road and had called for a meeting at his residence, which was cancelled as the officials were on leave.
Locals informed that a fresh meeting has been convened on Wednesday to discuss on road condition.
The road is infamous as several accidents have taken place.
Last year, unplanned hill cutting led to landslide at Kerya causing great hardship to commuters as the NH was closed for fifteen days.
A month ago, the road was opened but during first showers it was flooded and the contractor was forced to drain the water by making a hole into retaining wall.
Later, the four-lane road at Kerya caved in where the landslide had occurred.
