MARGAO: Less than three weeks after heavy rains had destroyed the home of retired Home Guard Vimal Shirodkar, she was provided with a new shelter in Shirvodem, Margao, thanks to a philanthropist.
It is to be noted that the District Disaster Management Authority has also granted Shirodkar financial aid of Rs two lakh.
Margao MLA Digambar Kamat stated that the house was rebuilt with the philanthropist’s funding, following his request. He added that the disaster management relief would be directly deposited into Vimal’s account.
Kamat, along with Margao Municipal councillor Mahesh Amonkar, visited Shirvodem to hand over the house keys to Vimal. Kamat told the media that he sought out a philanthropist to rebuild Vimal’s home after seeing her plight.
He also criticised political opponents without naming them while defending accusations against him, which he termed as false.
Kamat emphasized that the entire cost of the one-room house was covered by the philanthropist.
