PANJIM: Desmond D’Costa, retired Principal District and Sessions Court Judge and Pramod V Kamat, retired District and Sessions Judge have been reappointed as members of the Goa Human Rights Commission (GHRC) with effect from the date they assume charge of office.
In addition, D’Costa, has been authorised to act as Chairperson until the appointment of a new Chairperson to fill such vacancy. The GHRC Chairperson has to be a retired High Court Judge.
Both, D’Costa and Kamat will assume the charge from Wednesday.
The GHRC had become non-functional after the three-year term of the three-member Commission had ended in February this year.
In June this year, while hearing a writ petition, the State government had assured the High Court of Bombay at Goa that the government will reconstitute the Goa Human Rights Commission within three months.
There are more than 450 complaints mostly human rights violations, pending with the Commission.
