MARGAO: The State government on Saturday credited Rs 1.75 lakh into the account of the Commissioner for NRI Affairs, towards pension for retiring seafarers. The amount was credited by the Accounts Department.
The government had earlier sanctioned Rs 1.25 crore, which had already been disbursed to the retired seafarers, according to Director of NRI Affairs Anthony De Souza.
CM Pramod Sawant had made a provision of Rs three crore in the State budget for retired seafarers’ pension for the financial year 2022-2023.
Meanwhile, the State government is in the process of completing formalities in making the seafarers pension scheme for retired seafarers, permanent.
