PANJIM (HR): Around 100 retired teachers under the banner of Discriminated Teachers’ Forum marched the street from the Education Department to the Azad Maidan, here, on Sunday, to highlight their loss of two years of service after the State Government’s decision to reduce the retirement age to 58.
At the Azad Maidan, where the march ended, the teachers highlighted their plight after the Government took the decision through a notification issued on August 31, 2001. The teachers said the march was held to impress upon the political leaders to take up their cause at the assembly session set to begin on Monday.
Through a notification issued on August 31, 2001, the teachers who were to complete 58 years of age on or before November 30, 2001 were asked by the state government to retire. The successive government then restored the retirement age back to 60 years through a notification issued on April 19, 2006.
