MARGAO: The aggrieved workers of the Chowgule mining company employed at Costi mines can breathe a sigh of relief after the Union Labour Secretary struck down retrenchment of 345 workers of the company.
The company had retrenched the workers immediately after the stoppage of mining operations in Goa. Thereafter, the workers had complained to various leaders and authorities that the company had already terminated its officers and most of other permanent staff working on different mines including Costi Mines even before they could raise their voices.
The company had filed the application under Section 25N of Industrial Disputes Act, 1947 before Secretary of Labour, Government of India for retrenching 345 workers from Pale, Costi and Sirigao mines.
The applications were summarily rejected by the authority after employer filed written argument and union filed their written arguments and rejoinder.
