PONDA: In the absence of any signs of the revival of Sanjivani Sugar Factory, the management has undertaken innovative initiatives to generate revenue, leveraging the involvement of its workforce. With 79 contract-based workers alongside confirmed employees, the Sugar Factory Administration has ventured into cultivating various vegetables as part of a sustainable revenue-generating strategy.
Since the closure of Sanjivani Sugar Factory in the 2019-20 period, the administration has shifted focus to agriculture, particularly growing diverse vegetables on the factory-owned land. This produce is strategically marketed, contributing to revenue generation to the tune of lakhs.
Satej Kamath, Sugar Factory Administrator, shared insights into the initiative, highlighting the cultivation of vegetables such as capsicum, tambdi bhaji, ladyfinger, and cucumbers. Approximately ten plots have been dedicated to these activities, with groups of workers formed to manage each plot.
Incentives will be awarded to groups achieving the highest production, fostering a spirit of competition and collaboration.
The response from the workers has been overwhelmingly positive, and the initiative is anticipated to yield a monthly revenue of around Rs five lakh.
