MARGAO: Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco has written to the Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar asking him to revoke the GCZMA recommendation for the proposed construction of 5000 MT ammonia unit, within the CRZ area.
Reginaldo expressed his shock on the manner in which GCZMA had granted its recommendation for the proposal of M/s Zuari Agro Chemicals Limited for the expansion of its fertiliser lending unit for customised NPK production at Sancoale.
He stated “How and why GCZMA approved such a development leaves a big question mark on its functioning. The recommendations apparently faced an indictment of the expert appraisal committee of Ministry of Environment and Forest”.
Reginaldo stated that he perused the detailed representations made by citizens against the proposal and felt that it was incumbent on the part of GCZMA to revoke the permission. “Merely forwarding it to MoEF like a postman was not the solution. GCZMA has abdicated its primary responsibility towards the people of Goa, that is to protect their coastal environment”, he wrote to the CM.
