MARGAO: Reservation of seats for Women, SC, ST, and OBC of Margao Municipal Wards has given jolted the aspirations of established councillors of Margao, some of Fatorda and heavyweight probable candidates all over.
In Margao 4, 5, 13, 14, 16, 19, 20, 23, and 25 are reserved for Women. Ketan Kurtarkar who was to contest in ward 13, Arthur D’Silva who was in ward 5 has lost their chance to contest as their wards are now reserved for Women. Sitting councillor Sugandha Bandekar who was to re-contest in ward 23 along with sitting chairperson of MMC Pooja Naik has suffered a setback as their ward is now blocked for ST Wome.
Surprisingly, the petitioner Sujay Lotliker backed by Vijai Sardesai who was to contest in ward 5 is forced take a back seat as his ward has been reserved for women.
Ward 14 being reserved for SC Women negated the chances of Rajendra Azgaonkar, brother of Deputy Chief Minister Babu Azgaonkar from contesting. Wards 8 & 23 are reserved for ST and ST Women respectively. Wards 2, 4, 10, 16, 17, 19, 22, and 25 are reserved for OBC.
