Revoke draft Registration of Tourist Trade Rules: TAI

PANJIM: The Travel Association of India (TAI), Goa Chapter has urged Tourism Department to immediately revoke the draft Goa Registration of Tourist Trade (Amendment) Rules 2020, under which registration fees for the travel and tourism sector are hiked.

In a memorandum submitted to Director Tourism, TAI, Goa Chapter while expressing its reservation has said that the Goa Registration of Tourist Trade (Amendment) Rules 2020 are ill- timed and repugnant and hence demand that the same be revoked.

“The tourism sector has not received any assistance from the government in this crisis situation, neither has the government provided any measures or facilities that assist the agents to generate revenue. The travel industry has faced a huge set back due to the current situation and thus making the aforementioned amendments into governing rules will only add to our present misery,” the memorandum reads.

“The association expresses complete aversion with regards to the manner that the concerned department has sub served the rules that are aimed at hiking registration fees for the travel and tourism sector of Goa,” it added.

It said the association has been taken aback that a paramount decision of such has been communicated to the stakeholders via publication in the media and to add to our disappointment, has already been officially gazetted.

“Being one of the largest contributors in terms of tourism in the state of Goa, the association demands a detailed basis and reasoning upon which such amendments are required to be furthered,” TAI said.
