‘Revoke illegal house numbers to non-existent structures in Old Goa’

Save Old Goa Action Committee submit memorandum to local MLA; say it’s a serious offence as it will have detrimental effect on heritage areas

PANJIM: The Save Old Goa Action Committee on Friday submitted a memorandum to Cumbarjua MLA Rajesh Faldesai appealing to him to get illegal house numbers allotted to non-existent houses at Old Goa revoked as soon as possible.

A delegation of Save Old Goa Action Committee in its representation stated that allotting house numbers to non-existent houses is a serious offence, which will have detrimental effect on heritage areas as well as tourism favoured sites.

The delegation raised the issue of preparing a Master Plan for Old Goa. They told the Cumbarjua legislator that the Committee had already petitioned to the Town and Country Planning (TCP) department to prepare and to implement a Master Plan for Old Goa by including all the heritage sites and to protect them from encroachments. The delegation told the local MLA to get the Master Plan implemented before the Exposition of St Francis Xavier starting in November this year. They also suggested that a buffer zone of 300 metres be demarcated as per the Regional Plan 2021.

Thanking the MLA for supporting the fight against illegal bungalow in heritage area, the delegation urged the MLA to fulfill his assurance given to the protestors to get the illegal bungalow demolished within next six months.

The committee also bought to the notice of the MLA the issue of proposed laterite stone resort and hotels project in protected area. They stated that the Save Old Goa Action Committee had submitted to the Investment promotion and Facilitation Board (IPB) around 17,000 letters objecting to the project in close vicinity of an existing heritage church i.e. Our Lady of Mount (Monti Saibinn) church and not to allow project of ill repute defiling holy church and religious sentiments.
