THIVIM: The No Objection Certificate to a building project in the village dominated the Thivim gram sabha held on Sunday.
Locals sought an explanation from Sarpanch Sharmila Gadekar as to how a complex was issued an NOC by the panchayat when there was barely three meters access road to the project. The villagers demanded that the NOC issued to the builder be revoked immediately.
The Sarpanch said the NOC was given based on the approvals from the Town and Country Planning (TCP) department as the panchayat does not have technical experts.
“The builder has got TCP’s technical sanction and the panchayat cannot do anything about it now. The builder had shown a six-metre wide road on the plan and got the necessary approvals from the TCP,” she informed.
The villagers condemned the recent brutal assault on FC Goa fan, Lester D’Souza and his mother by the police after the ISL match at Fatorda stadium.
Locals also demanded action against those involved in dumping of garbage along the road side by imposing fines.
Secretary Dhiraj Govekar said that CCTV cameras and “no dumping garbage” signboards were installed but the same were damaged by miscreants.
The gram sabha observed a two minute silence in memory of those who lost their lives in road accidents.
