Revolutionary Goans manages to get sizeable vote share in Salcete

MARGAO: In its first foray in electoral politics, the Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) managed to get a sizeable vote share in Salcete taluka.

In the Nuvem constituency, RGP candidate Arvind D’Costa came in second place with 4,348 votes that amounted to 19.93 per cent of the overall vote share. While it was significantly behind the winner, Congress’ candidate Aleixo Sequeira who got 40.09 per cent of the vote share, D’Costa beat big names such as former Nuvem MLA Wilfred D’Sa who got 13.58 per cent of the vote share and Francisco Mickky Pacheco who got 9.5 per cent of the vote share.

Elsewhere in Curtorim constituency, RGP candidate Rubert Pereira came in third place with 3,479 votes, getting 15.58 per cent of the vote share. 

For perspective, Congress’ Moreno Rebello, who came in second, got 17.49 per cent of the vote share whereas the winner Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco (Independent) got 40.12 per cent of the vote share.

In Velim, RGP candidate Dagley Fernandes, who got 3,653 votes (15.62 per cent vote share), beat former MLA and former minister NCP’s Filipe Nery Rodrigues who got 14.62 per cent of the vote share but finished in fourth place.

In Benaulim, RGP’s Desmond Fernandes who also finished in the fourth place got 18.25 per cent of the vote share with 3,854 votes.

In Cuncolim, RGP’s Wilson Peter Cardozo finished third with 2,430 votes and got 10.52 per cent of the vote share.

In Fatorda, RGP’s Valerie Fernandes also came third but only got 6.44 per cent of the vote share with 1,556 votes.

In Navelim, while the RGP’s candidate Bento Da Silva finished in sixth place, he still managed to take 9.78 per cent of the vote share.

RGP however did not fare well in Margao where its candidate Shashiraj Subha Shirodkar got only 722 votes (3.19 per cent of the vote share).
