MARGAO: After all 40 MLAs rejected the draft People of Goan Origin bill, Revolutionary Goans are now taking the bill to the people and the first POGO rally will be held at Dando ground, Benaulim on Sunday, where the bill will be explained to the people and the future course of action will also be chartered.
Briefing media persons, Manoj Parab, convenor of Revolutionary Goans disclosed that the draft POGO bill was provided to all the 40 MLAs before the last Monsoon Session and since none of them tabled it in the House they have now decided to take the bill to the people.
“Various persons including political parties are talking about Goan and Goenkarponn but nobody has defined Goan as yet and that needs to be done because of which the POGO bill is important,” he said pointing out that even a person who comes to Goa just the previous day claims to be a Goan and seeks all government benefits under it.
“While we are beginning with Benaulim on Sunday, we propose to have similar meetings in each and every village and municipal areas of Goa to explain the need for having this bill in place,” he said cautioning that if the bill is not enacted then very soon Goans will be strangers in their own land.
“The migrant issue is really getting serious and today in each and every Assembly constituency there is a minim four to five thousand vote bank of migrants because of which all legislators are now not bothered about Goans and are only interested in saving the migrant vote bank that votes en block,” he said.
He said, “It was but natural for them to take POGO bill to Benaulim as the migrant issue in the village flared up then and congratulated the people for stopping all the illegal business carried out by migrants in the village.”
Jose Fernandes from Benaulim while complimenting the youngsters from Benaulim for stopping the illegal activities of the migrants wished Goans who were migrating to the West would not give their land and houses to anybody but give them only to Goans.
